Iley who previously inhabited the McLaren team, is actually not new to Lotus technical team. At the beginning of his career, he had worked with Mike Gascoyne, chief technical Lotus, while in Jordan and Renault.
"We are very pleased that John accepted the challenge we offer to him, to help us compete at a higher level inside and outside of the track where the key areas of performance in Formula 1," said Team Lotus CEO Riad Asmat, as quoted by Autosport, Thursday (8 / 12 / 2011).
Riad stated this contract is testament to the seriousness of the Team Lotus to develop yourself as a serious competitor in the days to come after we managed to bring the figure of John's caliber.
"We are very excited about the contribution that bissa given to our success in the future, since he first joined our team," he continued.
However Iley can not directly join the team because it is still under contract with McLaren. Iley new Team Lotus could be part coming after June 2012.
